From Chambéry or Lyon, the route runs the A43 and A430 past Albertville, then the Tarentaise valley road through Moûtiers to Méribel.
From Geneva, the drive follows the A41 and A43 past Annecy and Chambéry before joining the same route through Albertville and Moûtiers.
