From Nice Airport, the A8 motorway runs to Cannes in normal conditions in 35–50 minutes. The exit toward Grasse and the descent into Cannes is the most consistent bottleneck on this route. In summer or during the Cannes Film Festival, it can add significant time.
An alternative route through Vallauris, the hilltop town where Picasso lived and worked, avoids this bottleneck and adds a detour past his former studio.
During the Cannes Film Festival, twelve days each May, the Boulevard de la Croisette is partially closed to through traffic and hotels position their own loading arrangements at the entrance. Book as early as possible for this period.
