The Road There
From Geneva, the route runs entirely within Switzerland: the A1 motorway to Lausanne, then the A9 along the Rhône valley through Sion to Visp, before the final climb up the Saastal valley to Saas-Fee.
From Milan Malpensa, the route runs north through Domodossola to the Simplon Pass (2,005 m), which stays open year-round but can carry significant snow in winter. In poor conditions, vehicles can instead cross under the pass by rail on the BLS Autoverlad car train between Iselle (Italy) and Brig (Switzerland). From Brig, the route joins the Saastal valley road to Saas-Fee.
From Zurich, the route also runs entirely within Switzerland, via the A1 and A9 motorways past Bern to Visp, then up the Saastal valley.
Arriving in Saas-Fee
Saas-Fee is closed to combustion-engine vehicles, but the restriction begins right at the village edge. Vezzora's chauffeur drops you at the car park at the village entrance, a short walk (or free electric shuttle) from most hotels — unlike Zermatt, there's no separate village or connecting train.
