The route along the coast — past Cagnes-sur-Mer, through Villeneuve-Loubet and into Antibes along the seafront — takes a little longer. In the morning or early evening, it is worth every minute. Fishermen on the rocks, the water close enough to touch, the first real sense that you have arrived somewhere worth coming to. If there is no deadline, this is the road. The Vieil Antibes market — one of the oldest open-air markets on the Riviera — runs every morning except Monday. Provençal vegetables, local cheese, fresh fish from the boats. Clients staying nearby often ask to pass through on the way in rather than find it later.
The Musée Picasso occupies the Château Grimaldi, a 14th-century castle set directly above the sea on the old ramparts. Picasso worked here in 1946 and left the entire collection to the city. It is one of the more quietly extraordinary places on the coast — often missed by visitors who spend their time in Monaco or Cannes.
La Gravette is the sheltered semicircular beach at the foot of the old town, tucked between the ramparts and the yacht harbour. Calm water, no beach clubs, no sunbed rental. It is the beach Antibes residents actually use. Most tourists walk straight past it.
The Cap is a different world from the town. The hotels — Eden-Roc, Belles Rives — sit on the water, approached by narrow roads through private gardens. Drop-off here requires knowing where to turn. First-time drivers circle. It is not complicated, but it needs to have been done before.
Adjacent to Antibes, Juan-les-Pins has its own character — the jazz festival in July, the nightlife, the sandy beach. If your destination is Juan rather than Antibes, specify it when booking. They share a name in many booking systems but they are not the same place.
Antibes is home to one of the largest yacht marinas in Europe. If you are arriving by tender from a vessel at anchor, or picking up crew, the port has multiple access points. Crew transfers and marina pickups are handled regularly.
